Jake frowned in concern and confusion at Dirk's blatant avoidance of Jane's question. In the time that he'd known her, she'd never been blown off like that. He was a little worried about how she was taking it, but knew better than to say anything himself. He'd only get yelled at for inevitably making the situation worse. So he decided to simply answer Dirk's question from his point of view.

"Well, we met earlier this year. My grandmother passed away at the end of last year, leaving me a boatload of money and a house here in the states, but I wasn't really ready to be in that house again so soon after her passing, you know? So I came here to attend college with some of the money she left me, deciding to pursue some sort of higher education so that I could travel the world for things and be paid for them without having to use up all my inheritance. I applied to Crocker University to major in Archaeology and met Janey here in our English class. We were paired for a project early in the semester and grew closer during that until she finally admitted to me that she had feelings for me. I can be a bit oblivious at times, heh heh." He looked a bit sheepish at the last bit, a small blush on his cheeks as he glanced over lovingly to Jane.
