I Am The Shadow.... The True Self
Aug. 18th, 2016 10:11 pm At first, you might not even notice it. Maybe there's a sense that something's amiss, or not quite right, but nothing immediately changes. But as the week progresses, you might notice something different: friends talking about conversations you don't remember happening, seeing posts under your username that you definitely didn't make. Maybe you're even noticing your friends behaving inconsistently.
Perhaps you even come face to face with somebody who looks exactly like you, but acts so very, very differently.
Either way, it's time to face yourself and who you truly are.
((OOC: This event will last ICly from 8/19 to 8/26! Feel free to make open posts etc. on this thread, but you can also make your own logs if you would like to make a separate thread. More information can be found on the OOC post. Let us know if there are any questions!))

After a solid week of increasingly worrying radio silence from Feferi, and with very little reason to assume she was avoiding him in particular, Eridan had reached his limit for respectfully keeping himself out of her affairs. His hopes for the best were steadily changing into thoughts of the worst variety and the only way to stop it was to find out why she was ignoring him.
So he decided to investigate, with very little positive results. All her residences, including those she’d claimed her own though gifts to others or gifted keys, had been deserted. None of their mutual friends had heard from her and her school friends were similarly at a loss. And, as he’d expected, asking Meenah had been no help at all and he sure as hell was not asking the Peixes matriarch.
Ignoring him was one thing, but she’d seemed to have disappeared without a trace. If he’d had any other option, he’d have taken it, but he was running low on possible solutions and clocking overtime worrying about her, so he found himself digging up the contact information of the one obnoxiously blatant lead that he’d been desperately avoiding.
Eridan hadn't wanted to admit that maybe Dirk was closer to Fef now than he was and may have been informed about her plans where Eridan had been kept out of the loop. He’d accepted the possibility but it still stung.
CA: wwhere is she
CA: got your benefactor locked awway in the basement that penthouse a yours dont havve all tryin for a second go at the honeymoon phase or somethin
CA: knoww you twwo are tighter than sardines in a tin but that aint no excuse for gettin her to put a lid on

It had been a couple weeks since the near fiasco at the movies wherein Jake had pointed out a stranger's odd glow and produced one himself. Jane had said then that they were going to talk about things once they returned home, but by the time they arrived, both were too frazzled from the influx in strangers to remember to have the conversation. Only now was Jake even remembering the happening. And the only reasoning for that was a memory hitting him of a strange golden city in his dreams where he discussed a few things with his cousin, Jade.
Jake sighed as he laid in bed, contemplating how to bring it up to his girlfriend, but just decided to be blunt about it. He was terrible with these sort of things and lacked tact anyway, so what was the point in fretting over it? Resolving himself, the man sat up and got out of bed, moving into the kitchen where he knew his love would be baking, seeing as it was a rare day off for her and their summer classes had finished earlier that week.
"Janey? Can we talk about something? It's about the events at the arcade and my sheer lack of tact. We were going to talk about it afterward, but never got around to it," he reminded her, grabbing a seat at the kitchen table and reaching over to take a freshly baked cookie from the plate in front of him.

Beach Episode || Open
Jul. 27th, 2016 11:32 am Summer had arrived with a vengeance. Aggressively sunny days baked the town and the beach became a popular destination, often far too crowded for comfort.
At the end of July, an email went out to all of the heroes, offering them access to a private span of beach that promised to be uncrowded, stocked with snacks, and with bathroom facilities beyond awful sandy cement beach ones. The email proposed swimming and sunning and perhaps some volleyball or a sand castle building competition, but at least sun and waves and ocean breezes. Also some of the guest list would not be definite heroes, so powers were to be kept under wraps and people were welcome to bring a +1. There would be abundant food.
Bring Your Own: towel, seating arrangement, sunscreen, and any special food, beverage, or game.
It included a map to a beach just south of town, off the beaten path, with clear directions to a gate, including a code, with abundant parking behind it and a clearly marked path down to the beach. (Those familiar with Feferi would probably see her hand behind this, but she had taken care to not present it as a party she was throwing.)

Jul. 27th, 2016 11:28 amAfter his completely unhelpful near-argument with Feferi, and dealing with Dave practically laughing in his face, Dirk spent a lot of time trying to block the terrible double date from his mind. He quickly found he couldn't focus on any of his work, though, and decided to try a different tactic. He needed someone else to talk to. Someone who wouldn't laugh or glub at him. (As he didn't actually have many friends, it didn't take long for him to decide who to talk to. He just hoped Jane wouldn't mind.)
He spent a long moment staring at the blank text box, followed by several minutes of typing and deleting messages before he finally sent one. Christ, he felt like an idiot.

TT: Jane?
TT: Can I talk to you about something?
TT: Something personal?

It occurred to Dirk as he knocked on Jake's front door that he probably should have called before coming over, but it was too late to do anything about that now. Besides, he was eager (eager, not excited) to show the other man what he'd made for him. He adjusted the box he was holding into a more comfortable position while he waited for someone to answer the door. The longer he waited (which honestly wasn't long at all, but he was feeling impatient), the more he started to regret showing up without notice.
Giving people gifts was an important part of friendship, right? Feferi certainly seemed to think so. He hoped Jake did, as well. (And Jake had asked for this. Sort of.) Dirk frowned as he adjusted the box again, deciding that if Jake didn't want it, he would just go home. No harm done. Probably.

Dirk returned home after his truly disastrous double date, covered in ketchup and pieces of crab, and nursing his injured pride. He kicked his shoes off as he came in the front door and ditched his tie and jacket on the way into the living room. He was a mess, but he didn't bother to change before he climbed over the back of the couch and draped himself over Dave's lap. He lay on his stomach with his face pressed into the arm of the couch, not caring that he was probably interrupting whatever game his brother was playing.
"I'm never leaving the house again." He declared, his voice muffled by the cushions.
If Eridan had just straight out hated Dirk, he could deal with that. Hate was easy. But pity? He wasn't okay with that. And that's what had motivated Eridan to show him how to eat his lobster, he was sure. Because why else would the jerk help him?
Dirk grumbled to himself, mostly cursing under his breath, and yanked his shades off his face. He tossed them off the couch, not caring where they landed.
He couldn't believe he was officially so pathetic that even Eridan felt bad for him. And he was even more annoyed that it bothered him at all. Why should he care what anyone else thought of him? It wasn't like he liked Eridan or anything.
"Dave." He continued, still mostly inaudible. "I'm becoming a hermit."

Serendipitous Dreaming | Closed to Sollux
Jul. 17th, 2016 11:14 pmSomething about the stress made Roxy sharp, shot something cold and bright through her veins that had her pacing on breaks and tossing at night. The only way Roxy managed to knock herself out was through pure exhaustion: stress had been eating at her, and while she didn't allow herself to have any more emotional moments than the one she had already displayed when she first visited Sollux in the hospital, it had definitely taken its toll.
One of the more unexpected outcomes was her visits on Derse, though.
Though Roxy had reason to believe she had been running around on the moon for quite awhile without actually waking up, opening her eyes to various sights on its surface consumed her curiosity in her sleeping hours. She had gotten better at actually staying conscious there rather than submitting to more sleepwalking, and had explored for a few nights before she found the towers where her fellow Derse dreamers were kept.
Her own chamber mirrored her one back on Earth, minus a few cats: she couldn't really say for the others, since she mostly popped her head into windows where people were sleeping or out, but she guessed it was part of whatever magic kept them from keeling over on the surface of the moon despite their distinctly different biological needs compared to the carapaces.
Most of the dicking around stopped once she found Sollux's room, though.
It was kind of ridiculous how much of her waking hours had come to revolve around visits to him, how complicated her schedule had become to accommodate the hospital time: of course her resting hours would come to be consumed, too.
That night, Roxy dozed lightly against his bed, a chair pulled up towards the side so she could lean over and hide her face away in her arms. Using up so much energy both in- and out-of-dream had left her fatigued down to her bones, and despite the hyper awareness of everything around her, she was more prone to slipping asleep whenever she so much as touched a pillow. The only thing that roused her was movement in the sheets, and she sat up slowly, rubbing the bleariness out of her eyes. Once she realized why, exactly, she had woken up, Roxy froze and leaned forward again, her hands finding the shoulders of the dreamer.
"Lux?"

Jade had taken some time to cope with her own death, had done her best to make up with friends... but her own fragility had been nagging at her, like an itch that refused to go away. The more she tried to ignore it, the worse it got, until she was doodling very specific physics equations and diagrams into her school notebooks. After a month, she now had an entire blueprint worked out; the only problem was actually making the darn thing.
Luckily, she had a couple of ideas.

After a series of rather crude events Equius car seats found themselves with a new taint of red, courtesy of a certain Serket girl, and such thing could not stand. Though many would suggest that the best option was to replace the tapestry the man knew that his and the others heroes actions were bound to bring in-depth police investigation if they ever found anything about the vigilantes, and so he opted for a more safe approach.
It took him most of the evening to unscrew and take apart the companion and back seat to take them to the back yard of the shop where he settled them down near a brick wall and doused them in gasoline. Still inside the shop in dire sickness rested Vriska Serket most likely accompanied by Terezi who became a close acquaintance of Equius given the situation, but despite that Equius thought nothing wrong of inviting some people to enjoy what was sure to be a long-lasting fire. He blew on the lit match held in his hand and walked back into the shop to explain the girls his idea and whether or not they would join.
About an hour later Equius had sent a couple of messages, to Nepeta,Feferi, John, Terezis friend Karkat and even Dirk and Dave (He had been informed Sollux was unable to attend) and various others he had met in the last few months inviting them to bring food and drink to his place to enjoy a night long reunion in commemoration and remembrance of all that went past in the few months since the meteor fell. Settled over the soon to be burned seats now hovered various grills held up by metal legs ready for meats and vegetables to be settled on and cooked.
After setting a number of bricks and lawn chairs around the pire along with a couple of metal work tables for drinks and food to be settled on Equius let out a heavy sigh and waited for those who confirmed and those who would come but not felt like responding to his memo. Regardless of people, the seats would be cremated, luckily the dark stains of blood were mostly hidden by the thick wetness of the fire accelerators.

This was it. Karkat was actually going to go on a date with Terezi. If he had told his past self that this would happen, back when he'd literally been trying to set her up with Dave, past him probably would have laughed his ass off. But there he was. He had put on a bunch of different shirts and outfits, absolutely none of which looked good on him. Eventually, he had settled for his brightest red t-shirt and a normal pair of jeans. Terezi was blind, anyway, the color was all that actually mattered.
The plan was to meet up at the Benjamin Building near the front entrance and take a taxi to their destination. Karkat knew where they were headed, but like the master of romance he was, he was keeping as a surprise for her. Hopefully, she'd like it. And wouldn't think it was stupid. Actually now that Karkat thought about it, it was definitely the worst place he could possibly take her and oh shit he needed to think of something else. But they were meeting up in ten minutes and he'd already made a point of making it a surprise and if he took her to some basic coffee shop that would be even more idiotic and oh fuck why hadn't he let her make the plans this was going to be a fucking disaster.
On that note, Karkat pocketed his phone and wallet and pushed open the door to his room, prepared to face his doom. His head was swimming and he was basically trying not to think about anything as he walked all the way through his dorm and then outside across the campus. Luckily, it was a nice, sunny day. Everything would have been ruined if it had been raining. People walked the sidewalks around him, chatting merrily, blissfully unaware that there was a doomed main in their midst.
Finally, he spotted the building in the distance, and near the front entrance there was a girl that looked about the right height and stature to be Terezi. As soon as he saw her, there was an almost painful lurch in his stomach. Swallowing down the nerves, he closed the rest of the distance between them and greeted her nervously.
"Hey, Terezi.. You ready to go?"

Sollux fought with Tav at first, panicking even further when he was dragged down onto the ground and held there despite his thrashing limbs. He was too exhausted from his power expenditure and rapid blood loss to do much, and his energy ran out before Tavros could even tell him who it was.
When he heard his boyfriend's voice in his ear, he sagged completely, fingers that had been trying to tear Tavros' hands off him clutching desperately instead.
"I can't see..." Sollux sobbed, spitting out blood that dripped into his mouth as he spoke, "Tavros, I can't see!"
He couldn't tell but he thought the world was getting blacker, as if that was possible. He needed a hospital, and fast.

Insert Coin | OPEN
Jun. 24th, 2016 12:48 pmInsert Coin didn't look like much from the outside: dark tinted windows and a large green and black sign over top. Nevertheless the bike rack out front was almost always full and finding parking could be quite a challenge.
It lay several blocks north of the park, nearer to Skaia U than Crocker U and well nestled in the heart of the area where most Skaia students who lived off campus tended to settle in a more densely packed area with apartments and eateries. It didn't bother advertising much since it had become a staple of college life in Sburb and business was booming.
Inside the place was dimly lit with scattered neon and the comforting blue glow of abundant screens. Most of the floor space was devoted to games that ran the gamut from pac man up to the more modern games with motion capture so you could duck your character behind cover and several DDR machines to trick people into exercising.
A long glass counter stretched to your right as you came in, complete with the full range of prizes that you could redeem your tickets for, all the way up to the 100,000 ticket replica light saber that gleamed in its own case behind the counter. The employees generally looked bored as they exchanged cash for tokens and tickets for prizes.
Farther in was another counter that the owners had had the brilliant idea of making available to food truck vendors. The menu varied drastically depending on the day and regular customers tracked Insert Coin's social media feeds to find out which food trucks were scheduled for which days. There were some tables and chairs clustered near that counter as well as the more active games like DDR for entertainment while you ate. The water fountains and bathrooms were near there as well.
There was also a more enclosed area upstairs, with private rooms for karaoke and private parties, where you could reserve a room and a particular game ahead of time for a few hours. The owner often said that putting in a service elevator had been his smartest investment and a large chunk of the arcade's income came from people setting up soulcalibur tournaments or bringing in their own consoles to take advantage of top of the line projection and sound equipment to game on a screen the size of a wall.
For clients of age they also sold beer and some basic cocktails, though if you spilled you were banned for a month with second offenses earning you a lifetime ban.
Have fun!
((Mod note: The arcade and food trucks will be wholly staffed by NPCs for now so feel free to set future threads here for parties or hang outs. It has any arcade game you want. The areas so far are: Main Arcade, Prize Counter, Food Counter, Karaoke, and Party Rooms. Let us know if you want other areas! Also this isn't leading to plot or anything, we just felt the time was right for a new neutral space and an open thread!))

Vriska's text to hang out with Terezi at the park and to get away from Equius' workshop and home was sent early in the morning giving her plenty of time to get ready and to arrive on time. However, Terezi was feeling more than lazy that morning; she had seen the text and agreed to hang out but after laying around and wandering the hallways of the dorms in her PJs with fellow Skaia students; she had decided to tell Vriska she would be a little late to meet up. It didn't seem to be a problem with Vriska; they would just meet up at the park itself when Terezi was done doing whatever nonsense she wanted to do. Mainly, pester a certain co-leader.
Walking into the park, Terezi followed the path without her long cane in hand. She decided to fly solo for the day. They had a general area where they were going to meet and Terezi had tried contacting Vriska but to no avail. There was a slightly sinking feeling in her gut; a mix of emotions that made it hard to pick which one was ruling over the others. Sniffing the air, it seemed like a relatively normal day at the park. Freshly boiled hot dogs, the variety scents of people, recently cut grass, blood, bile, urine - What the fuck?
The sickening triad of aromas wasn't too far and she didn't have to think twice. Terezi was already running towards the scene. The sounds of agonizing screaming, pitiful crying and anger rang in her ears as her stomach sank even harder. It was like deja vu without it actually being deja vu. It was her vision coming alive. Sollux and Vriska were in danger of each other. No way, it can't be true. Denying the situation didn't help; she had small hints on what she was actually 'seeing'. She was waiting for proof and now it was clear as day. There was no way of changing the outcome; she wasn't even sure how to change the outcome but it didn't matter her friends were in danger
Terezi slowed her steps as she approached the disaster before her. Her hands indistinctly covered her mouth and nose. It seemed as if she was affected by the mere gore of it all but that wasn't the case. She felt like she had a hand in keeping this from happening; she was the one with the insight but she kept quiet. Now, three friends were injured and/or torn apart.
Panic set in, her vision never stated who was at fault; her body moved on it's own as she picked up Vriska under the arms. Her left hand slipped, feeling the pooling blood and missing limb. "Oh fuck," Terezi blurted out, she fumbled with her friend's body. Eyes were welling up but she stayed determined; dragging Vriska away and out of sight of pedestrians. Police would be called, that much blood and a noise disturbance would do that.
When she had found a spot close to one of the entrances of the park; hidden in the bushes. Terezi placed Vriska down gently before going to her phone. She wiped the blood off her hands on her already stained with blood shirt and pants. She wasn't sure to who to call or message but Vriska lived with Equius and that was about as good as it was going to get. She didn't know Vriska had already managed to leave Equius a voice-mail but another message from another person to verify the significance of the situation would help prompt the man on aiding the two.

Now, was not the time to be silly or joking but her panic couldn't let her take the whole thing too seriously or she wouldn't be able to help Vriska or herself. Sending Equius a picture of Vriska would be good enough evidence to show Terezi wasn't joking around. She had sent him other pictures though some a tad blurry from shaking hands but it gave a good picture of where they were hiding. The last thing to do was wait and hope Vriska wasn't going to die. Terezi took off Vriska's shirt in a sad attempt to tie it around the gaping wound where her arm used to be and put pressure on the wound.
"Vriska, can you hear me? Don't you fucking die on me because of this shit. I don't know what happened but rest assured I'm going to get to the bottom of this." Terezi spoke, her volume low enough for only Vriska to hear, if she could hear.

At some point, the curiosity became too great to ignore the fact that she had a bunch of unidentified metal parts just kind of sitting around; Roxy had to deal with them sometime, if only to free up the box they all came in for the cats. She hadn't really been sure what to make of Dirk based on their last meeting, but after he had sent Feferi over, Roxy could at least give him the benefit of the doubt that instead of being a moderately antisocial dude with no grasp on how to read situations, he was at least a moderately antisocial dude with no grasp on how to read situations who had a heart that people like Feferi liked. When Roxy was finally off from work again, she brought up her Trollian app and began typing out a message to the mysterious dude.

It was a beautiful day out. So beautiful, in fact, that Jake found it the perfect day to get some sunshine and maybe fish for a bit. It had been a few days since he'd been out, and he was itching to get out of the office for a day to just enjoy nature again. Sure he had class, but he could afford to skip a day. Especially since he wouldn't be out until much later in the day, missing the prime time for fishing. He had talked to Jane about it the night before, and she begrudgingly gave her ok for him to go out as long as he promised not to do his normal 'no cellphone/technology in the wilderness' stint. She wanted regular updates to make sure he didn't drown or anything while attempting to fish in the lake rather than the ocean.
So that morning, before the sun even began rising, Jake packed up his fishing gear and a satchel of food for the day, quietly bidding his girlfriend a goodbye with the promise of an update as soon as he reached the lake and grabbing his bike. The dark-skinned man peddled his way to Lake Sburb across town from his apartment, taking joy in the feel of the cool morning air around him as he made his journey. When he arrived, Jake dismounted his transport and stood it off to the side by the lake. He then took off his satchel and got his pole and line ready, attaching the hook and bait afterward. He sat himself up on the travel stool he brought with and finally cast his line into the water just as the sun was beginning to rise. It sure was beautiful in all its yellows and oranges and pinks. He breathed in deep and got himself settled into the pattern of fishing and enjoying nature as he awaited a bite.

Delivery Fish | Closed to Roxy
Jun. 22nd, 2016 02:46 pmDirk had handed her a plain box with an address written on it and asked that she make sure it was delivered before diving back into his work. In the typical way of assumptions, Dirk figured she knew he wanted it couriered over and Feferi figured that he meant for her to take it herself.
The box, taped shut, made a slightly metallic sound when she shook it gently. 'Roxy' said the address, further piquing Fef's interest. Dirks intention of her having the package couriered over bubbled away unnoticed as Feferi, grinning, strapped the box into her passenger seat and drove off to hand deliver the intriguing thing and see who this Roxy was (and to see what Dirk was sending her).
Feferi was dressed casually with a black tanktop and jean shorts over a pink bikini with matching pink sandals. Summertime was beachtime and Fef never knew when she would be near enough to a body of water to go swimming. Brightly colored bracelets rattled on her wrists, the light catching on the gold band around her forehead as she carted the box up to the front door and rang the bell, grinning and bouncing on the balls of her feet as she waited for the door to open. The doorbell sounded oddly like.. meowing? Except it continued long after a doorbell usually would.
