Her parents were sad she had decided to move, but she had insisted her increased senior workload next year would require her to be as near to the school as possible. She neglected to mention her true motivation, however -- fear that her parents might discover her powers. They were already suspicious of her sudden change in appetite. Kanaya was dressed for hard work -- a simple red V-neck and high-waisted jeans. Her only jewelry was a gold nose ring. She paused loading boxes into her mother's SUV to wipe her brow, and perched on the trunk to check her phone for news of Jane and her friend.
