Lunch Date, Don't Be Late || Closed to Dirk and Jake
Jane's Dad eventually let her off work early on in the night, wishing her a lovely evening as he closed up shop, relieving her duties. The young woman couldn't help but tread home excitedly, unable to hide the wide smile on her face- not that she actually wished to do so. The day had been quite eventful, with the bakery booming and making a new friend, or at least, the potential of a new friend. In her hand, she carried the slip of paper Dirk had given her, excited to read it over and contact the man.
She reached her apartment in record time, unlocking the door and stepping over the threshold. After taking off her jacket, she turned to the lightened interior, excited to tell Jake the news.
"Hey Jake, I'm home! You won't believe what happened today!"

The woman felt as if her life was boring compared to Jake, who was always going on an adventure. She didn't know Dirk well enough to pass that kind of judgement, though she could only guess that his life was pretty action-packed based on his looks alone. Her blue eyes wandered the man's face before turning back to Jake.

"And you, Jake?" He asked, turning to the other man, trying to keep the attention off himself for now. What could he even say if they asked again? Normally I sew fetish toys and sell them on the internet, but lately I've been fighting monsters, and my little brother hasn't spoken in a week since one of his friends died and I almost killed him!
Jake: Munch on Sandwich
Then, once she was finished, Dirk actually turned to him and asked about his life. He nearly choked on his sandwich!
"Oh me? Well, I grew up all over the world, traveling with my Grandma. We went everywhere! And occasionally would meet up with my cousin, Jade, to explore various caverns and tombs and the like. It's why I finally settled here for a little while to get a degree in Archaeology and do it professionally," he explained. "Other than that, my life is pretty normal with my Grandma teaching me how to hunt and fighting in the wilderness and whatnot."

Shaking her head slightly to clear her mind and move her thoughts back to the conversation at hand, Jane chuckled. "Jake has gotten into his fair share of accidents, though. He certainly likes getting hurt and worrying me to no end!"

Dirk snorted softly, Jane's fond expression making him smile as well. "Sounds a bit like my little brother. Kid is gonna give me a heart attack one day."

"Ooooh boy did Granny get angry with me. 'What the hell did you think you were doing, young man?! Fighting a bear?! How insane can you even get! Don't you dare worry me like that again!' Well, I'll have you know it was just a few short years later that we were in America for the first time, and I fought a mid-sized Grizzly and won unscathed, thank you very much!" Jake had completely lost himself in his tales of adventure, like usual. Most people wanted to not believe the young man when he shared the stories, but they were always taken aback when Jake showed off an accompanying scar to prove the validity of said stories. Sure, it wasn't a normal life that he'd lived, but it was what made him who he was. And he had his grandmother to thank for that, so he sure wasn't complaining.

"So! What do you and your little brother do that's so dangerous? You said his name was Dave, correct?" she asked, smiling at the blond male.

His expression darkened as he turned his attention back to Jane. It was his own damned fault for bringing that up, but her question about Dave still put him on edge. His initial reaction was to tell her to mind her own business, but he stomped down on that urge. For whatever reason, he liked Jane, and he didn't want to ruin that.
He looked out the window over Jane's shoulder and tried to change the subject. "How did you two meet?"
no subject
"Well, we met earlier this year. My grandmother passed away at the end of last year, leaving me a boatload of money and a house here in the states, but I wasn't really ready to be in that house again so soon after her passing, you know? So I came here to attend college with some of the money she left me, deciding to pursue some sort of higher education so that I could travel the world for things and be paid for them without having to use up all my inheritance. I applied to Crocker University to major in Archaeology and met Janey here in our English class. We were paired for a project early in the semester and grew closer during that until she finally admitted to me that she had feelings for me. I can be a bit oblivious at times, heh heh." He looked a bit sheepish at the last bit, a small blush on his cheeks as he glanced over lovingly to Jane.

"I took a quick liking to him," she added onto the story with a fond smile. "We've been inseparable ever since, even getting an apartment together."
Jane cleared her throat softly, trying to figure out what to ask him next, however, it seemed he didn't want to speak much about his own life. Still, she didn't feel overly comfortable talking about herself, and only herself.
"Are you seeing anyone?" she asked, hoping the question would be avoided once more.
Dirk: be really bad at this socializing thing
He should have seen the follow up question coming, but it still caught him off guard. He couldn't help the way he blushed, and was annoyed to find he immediately thought of Eridan. (Which didn't make sense. It wasn't like he liked him or anything.) He dug his nails into his palms and forced himself not to fidget.
"No." He answered honestly, his neutral expression verging on a frown. That didn't seem like answer enough, so he added, somewhat awkwardly, "I don't get out much."
He found himself almost wanting to share the details with Jane, but he was unaccustomed to divulging personal information, so he kept it to himself.
Jake: Be Encouraging
"Don't worry, old chap! You'll find yourself a lover! I just know it. You're the type people go for, brooding and mysterious. Not to mention, you're quite the looker, so you could easily have any guy or gal you sought after!" Through Jake's hopeful encouragement, a warmth passed through him and into Dirk, almost like a transfer of his own hopeful energy to get the other's obviously downtrodden spirits back up.

As soon as the thought of Jake crept into her mind, he clapped Dirk on the shoulder. Jane hoped Dirk wouldn't take the quick touch in a bad light. She felt like nudging her boyfriend, but didn't want to cause a scene, no matter how small it might have been. Plus, she did appreciate Jake helping Dirk out. He'd always been good about such things.
"And if you ever want to talk romance, I know a thing or two," said Jane, a mischievous smile appearing on her face. Of course, she really didn't believe it. Jane Crocker was many things, but a romantic guru was not one of them.

He offered them both a small smile. For some reason, he felt a lot better about Eridan all of a sudden.
"You're probably right, Jake." He agreed. "I don't know what I was so worried about."
no subject
Then, the blond spoke, and Jake had to force himself to pay attention to the words and stop worrying about his own feelings.
"Oh! Yes, of course. I'm not sure what you were worried about either. You'll be fine," he said, albeit a little less convincing than before and refrained from touching the other male again.
"So, do you have any other questions for us, Dirk? Anything you would like to know about us?"
