Insert Coin | OPEN
Insert Coin didn't look like much from the outside: dark tinted windows and a large green and black sign over top. Nevertheless the bike rack out front was almost always full and finding parking could be quite a challenge.
It lay several blocks north of the park, nearer to Skaia U than Crocker U and well nestled in the heart of the area where most Skaia students who lived off campus tended to settle in a more densely packed area with apartments and eateries. It didn't bother advertising much since it had become a staple of college life in Sburb and business was booming.
Inside the place was dimly lit with scattered neon and the comforting blue glow of abundant screens. Most of the floor space was devoted to games that ran the gamut from pac man up to the more modern games with motion capture so you could duck your character behind cover and several DDR machines to trick people into exercising.
A long glass counter stretched to your right as you came in, complete with the full range of prizes that you could redeem your tickets for, all the way up to the 100,000 ticket replica light saber that gleamed in its own case behind the counter. The employees generally looked bored as they exchanged cash for tokens and tickets for prizes.
Farther in was another counter that the owners had had the brilliant idea of making available to food truck vendors. The menu varied drastically depending on the day and regular customers tracked Insert Coin's social media feeds to find out which food trucks were scheduled for which days. There were some tables and chairs clustered near that counter as well as the more active games like DDR for entertainment while you ate. The water fountains and bathrooms were near there as well.
There was also a more enclosed area upstairs, with private rooms for karaoke and private parties, where you could reserve a room and a particular game ahead of time for a few hours. The owner often said that putting in a service elevator had been his smartest investment and a large chunk of the arcade's income came from people setting up soulcalibur tournaments or bringing in their own consoles to take advantage of top of the line projection and sound equipment to game on a screen the size of a wall.
For clients of age they also sold beer and some basic cocktails, though if you spilled you were banned for a month with second offenses earning you a lifetime ban.
Have fun!
((Mod note: The arcade and food trucks will be wholly staffed by NPCs for now so feel free to set future threads here for parties or hang outs. It has any arcade game you want. The areas so far are: Main Arcade, Prize Counter, Food Counter, Karaoke, and Party Rooms. Let us know if you want other areas! Also this isn't leading to plot or anything, we just felt the time was right for a new neutral space and an open thread!))

Feferi: -whistle appreciatively-
When the final stage rolled through at last and the last stage came up, Feferi swallowed her mouthful of popcorn and set her bag on the table before tucking her fingers into her mouth and wolf-whistled before applauding. "Encore encore!!" she cried, grinning as she picked up her popcorn again.
"If you do another round isle the bottle of water'll be on me!!" Fef offered cheerfully. She was dressed somewhat less garishly than usual in jean shorts and a loose pink top, her mane of hair pulled back in a long french braid for once. She had come to train.
Jane: Jump in Surprise
She smiled, though a blush found its way to her cheeks as Jane averted her eyes. "Well, I wouldn't mind doing another round! Care to join me?" she asked, looking up. This woman looked absolutely harmless. Perhaps Jane would be able to find friendship with her, or at least company until Jake returned from the claw machine.
Feferi: Jump at the chance
Still, she set her popcorn down and brushed crumbs off of her top as she bounced over, digging quarters out of her pocket. "Shell we?"
Jane: Introduce Yourself
She inserted a few coins into the machine before configuring the settings and standing back. Before the game began, the young woman turned to the other. "I'm Jane, by the way!"
Feferi: Charmed I'm shore
The game started up, with barely any arrows scrolling up the screen and still she managed to miss about 1 in 3, stomping too early or too late and thumping down far harder than necessary and bouncing around with little synchronization with the beat. Feferi could dance under normal circumstances but when she thought too much about her foot placement she might as well have had fins for how much she flopped around. Feferi giggled uproariously when the game announced she had scored a D and glanced at Jane's score. "Oh WOW I knew you were good!!!" she said happily.
no subject
"So, this place is really nice, huh Feferi?" she exclaimed, hoping to change the subject away from her near perfect score.
Feferi: Two Fs in Feferi
"Yes!! I relly like it here when I need to blow off some steam!!!! Have you ever tried any Dragonslayer?? It's reely good quarterstaff practice if you're into that sorta fin!!!!!" Feferi explained cheerfully, not particularly in any rush to fail at DDR again.
Still, she scrolled through the songs, looking for something that sounded familiar or upbeat, absently humming some whale songs as she clicked through the song list.
"Do you come here often? Do you live around here?" she asked, glancing over her shoulder at Jane and grinning.
no subject
"I might play Dragonslayer! This is my first time here, admittedly. I live near Crocker University, almost on campus, in fact. Do you live around here? I feel like I'd remember seeing or meeting someone as spunky as you," she replied, watching as Feferi scrolled through the songs, though hoped she wouldn't pick one. Dancing and talking at the same time was difficult for her.
Feferi: Spunky is as spunky does
"I mainsail the name sounds moor impressive than the game but it's reely good quarterstaff sparring practice and a good excuse for quarterstaff practice," Feferi said as if this was the most natural thing in the world, then randomly selected a song. "Might as whale get this over with!!"
no subject
One thing Jane was able to decipher from the speech was the fact that Feferi also went to Crocker University. It made her wonder why they had never seen one another around, Jane would have definitely remembered someone like Feferi. Another subject she was able to catch was something about sparring practice. That struck her as a little odd, as Feferi didn't seem like the type of woman that would go around sparring with people.
Still, instead of speaking, she decided to dance. She wondered if Feferi would take her to play Dragonslayer afterward, though there was a nagging at the back of her mind that she needed to get back to Jake, as she had left him high and dry at the claw machine.
Due to her distracted mind, Jane completely failed at that round of DDR, watching as a C appeared on her screen. "Well, it seems you might have beaten me!" she commented, looking over at Feferi once more.
Feferi: Be the champion
She giggled and bumped her shoulder against Jane's. "Guess you shell pick the last song then!" Fef declared, grinning and leaning back against the waist high bar that she had seen those who were extra good at DDR using so they could move their feet with unnatural speed without falling over.
"Mako shore it's a good one!!!" Fef insisted, ready to lose as she bounced on the balls of her feet, fully intending to give Jane the challenge of a lifetime that a fish with two left fins could manage. Video games were not her forte, but she did enjoy challenges.
Jane: Don't let her win
"Alright, let's do this!" she exclaimed, smiling brightly as the music began playing. She pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose as she began dancing, pushing away everything else in the world, determined to win. She was filled to the brim with determination.
Before she knew it, the song was over once more, an A staring her in the face. She wooped with joy and jumped up slightly before wiping the sweat from her brow. Jane definitely regretted wearing the clothes she did. Once she got over her A, she turned to Feferi. "How did you do?"
Feferi: Glub glub glub!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feferi was practically crying with laughter but she managed to gulp in air, wiping her streaming eyes as she beamed at Jane. "Glub I might... do better if... I just... lay down... on it....." she wheezed between giggles, snickering as she tried to get herself more under control. "Oh my cod I'm as useless as a mermaid on land at this game."
Feferi was a little breathless from her torrent of laughter but she managed to catch her breath better, though little chuckles still escaped her, her eyes bright with mirth. "Shall I get us some drinks as promised?" she asked, grinning.
no subject
"Drinks would be lovely! I'm parched," Jane responded, offering the other a bright smile. She could feel just how flushed her cheeks were from the workout and the laughter following. She only hoped Feferi didn't think she was making fun of her. "I might need to check up on my boyfriend, though. I haven't heard from him, so I'm hoping he didn't get kicked out for breaking one of the machines." Her blue eyes continued wandering the area Jake had been in, though Jane wasn't sure she was actually looking in the correct direction. The dancing and meeting someone new had left her brain wobbly.
Feferi: Gulp gulp gulp!
"One for your boyfrond too!" Feferi said with a grin, leaning against a table, which wobbled. She lurched but managed to get her feet under herself and she giggled. "Maybe isle sea you here again sometime!! Next time whale make shore you try dragonslayer," Feferi said smugly, twisting the lid off of her water bottle and taking a long satisfied swig before flopping into a chair.
"Tail your boyfrond the machines work betta without breaking them!!!" she teased, wiping water and sweat from her face with thoroughness that would be surprising if you didn't know about her hydrokinesis. She wiped her sopping hand on her pants, leaving her face dry as she flashed her white teeth at Jane again in that sharklike grin.
no subject
"Thank you for the water, and I'll be sure to let Jake know," she chuckled. "Since we're parting ways, maybe we could exchange phone numbers. It'd be very nice to get to know you better." Jane then took a large gulp from her water bottle. It was nerve-wracking, asking people for their number.
Feferi: Gotta Catch 'Em All
"For future reference do you prefer calling or texting?" Fef asked.
no subject
"I'm much more prone to texting, but I can handle a call or two," Jane smiled, handing Feferi's phone over to her.
Feferi: Typety type type
"Texting's good!! Or pesterchum!!!" Feferi said, looking down at her phone as she added a note to text rather than call, then opened up a message to Jane.
)( JAN------E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feferi grinned at the other before frowning at the time. "Sea you on your shellphone," Feferi said with a wink. "Whale have to get together some otter time so I can meet your boyfrond!" She waved and bounded off to her next adventure, never one to stay still for long. A vague idea about a beach party was beginning to come together, and Jane and her +1 had definitely just secured a place on the guest list.
