Insert Coin | OPEN

Insert Coin didn't look like much from the outside: dark tinted windows and a large green and black sign over top. Nevertheless the bike rack out front was almost always full and finding parking could be quite a challenge.

It lay several blocks north of the park, nearer to Skaia U than Crocker U and well nestled in the heart of the area where most Skaia students who lived off campus tended to settle in a more densely packed area with apartments and eateries. It didn't bother advertising much since it had become a staple of college life in Sburb and business was booming.

Inside the place was dimly lit with scattered neon and the comforting blue glow of abundant screens. Most of the floor space was devoted to games that ran the gamut from pac man up to the more modern games with motion capture so you could duck your character behind cover and several DDR machines to trick people into exercising.

A long glass counter stretched to your right as you came in, complete with the full range of prizes that you could redeem your tickets for, all the way up to the 100,000 ticket replica light saber that gleamed in its own case behind the counter. The employees generally looked bored as they exchanged cash for tokens and tickets for prizes.

Farther in was another counter that the owners had had the brilliant idea of making available to food truck vendors. The menu varied drastically depending on the day and regular customers tracked Insert Coin's social media feeds to find out which food trucks were scheduled for which days. There were some tables and chairs clustered near that counter as well as the more active games like DDR for entertainment while you ate. The water fountains and bathrooms were near there as well.

There was also a more enclosed area upstairs, with private rooms for karaoke and private parties, where you could reserve a room and a particular game ahead of time for a few hours. The owner often said that putting in a service elevator had been his smartest investment and a large chunk of the arcade's income came from people setting up soulcalibur tournaments or bringing in their own consoles to take advantage of top of the line projection and sound equipment to game on a screen the size of a wall.

For clients of age they also sold beer and some basic cocktails, though if you spilled you were banned for a month with second offenses earning you a lifetime ban.

Have fun!

((Mod note: The arcade and food trucks will be wholly staffed by NPCs for now so feel free to set future threads here for parties or hang outs. It has any arcade game you want. The areas so far are: Main Arcade, Prize Counter, Food Counter, Karaoke, and Party Rooms. Let us know if you want other areas! Also this isn't leading to plot or anything, we just felt the time was right for a new neutral space and an open thread!))

Dirk raised an eyebrow at the nickname as he shoved tokens into the game. He stood, waiting for the balls to roll down.

"That's a terrible nickname." He told her. He picked up the first ball and rolled it up the lane, but threw too hard and missed the center target. Shit. He tried again, but this time his aim was skewed to the right. For fuck's sake, shouldn't he be good at this? The third ball hit the mark, as did the ones he threw after that, and he bent to collect his tickets with a little smirk.

Feferi snickered. "So maybe I'm not great at nicknames," she admitted, sticking her tongue out of the corner of her mouth as she concentrated on hitting the super high value hole at the top left via extremely over enthusiastic flings. The balls . She only hit it twice, but it was enough to give her a nice waterfall of tickets.

Giggling, competition already forgotten, she clicked in several more tokens to play another round, aiming for the high value hole again.

"Were you even keeping score?" He asked, putting in more tokens for his game as well. He was pretty sure Feferi had forgotten about the competition as soon as they'd started playing. He supposed it didn't matter much, as long as they got enough tickets to win the prize for Dave.

"....Oh yeah.... Nope!!" she said, giggling as her latest wild shot rebounded and rolled back down to her after bouncing off of the rails around the holes. Her machine continued to spit out tickets as she improved her ability to nail the 10,000 hole.

"Yes!" she cried, jumping up and down as her machine played a victory noise as she finally got more consistent about hitting her goal and the machine poured out a fresh pile of tickets.

"Dirkasonic how's your pile of tickets?" she asked, grinning and wrapping her arms around him.

"No to that name too." Dirk looked over her head, at the growing pile of tickets on the floor, as he returned her embrace.

"It's growin'. How many do we need?"

"Hm.. lots. 100,000 I believe," Feferi said, frowning at their piles and doing some rough estimation. "I think we've probably got about... 3,000? Hm... Do you know if any of these other games pay off betta?" she asked, looking around at the arcade. "I know at adult gambling there are games that have betta payoffs..."

Feferi wasn't one much for actual gambling, though perhaps it was time to give it a try again. She wondered if Dirk had a hankering for a trip to a casino for a fun weekend.

Dirk wandered over to a game surrounded by bright flashing lights, trusting Feferi to follow him. Looking it over, he discovered the object of the game was to push a button to stop a light when it landed on the desired amount of tickets.

He looked over at Feferi. "Think I could get the jackpot on this one if I move fast."

Feferi grinned, watching him annihilate at the reflex game and add mounds to their existing ticket pile.

She eyed the light saber speculatively, resolving to provide them with a new one after she and Dirk laid claim to this one, and, with a grin, headed over to a contained target shooting game using a water cannon. She hummed to herself, seizing control of the water with her power and subtly nudging the high powered stream to the largest value targets.

Soon she returned to Dirk with armloads of tickets, grinning as she looked over their combined loot.

One stunned employee later and Dirk had possession of a high quality red light saber for Dave that could be used for play fighting and Feferi had a fresh one on order for anonymous delivery to the arcade.
