Something Massive This Way Comes | Crocker Univeristy
If you turn on the news at all this afternoon, you might notice that the entire city is in a state of straight up panic. The news reporters are frantically trying to find the proper words to say "A massive cyclops monster has emerged next to Crocker University and it is heading north."
Perhaps, if you're close enough, you'll hear the thing's massive footsteps as it cracks pavement and sends good town citizens screaming and running for cover.
Or perhaps you're listening into the police radio somehow, hearing their attempts to harm the thing go entirely to waste. Clearly, they aren't cut out to face giant monsters - that's up to somebody else.
It's time to shine, heroes!
((OOC Notes: First off, a reminder that if you participate in this battle, you will NOT be able to participate in the second battle, which will happen from the 27th-31st. Pick whichever one works best with your schedule.
Secondly, we are going to try a new battle format for this series of battles. Multiple attacks from multiple characters can be launched at once rather than needed to wait for a monster response between each attack. The way this will work is that you will make a direct reply to the most recent monster post, detailing your character's attack - do NOT reply anybody else's attacks. For now, this means you can also launch consecutive attacks, though there may be instances in which your character will have to sit out a round due to damages; we'll let you know if this happens.
Here's a concrete example of what a battle thread may look like.
At the end of this event, we'll try and get a sense about how you guys like this new battle method. We're hoping this will streamline battles a bit more and give everybody a shot at the action!))

ROUND 5
Any hopes that they had claimed victory however were soon dashed as the massive thing clambered clumsily to its feet, shedding chunks of concrete as it rose, its eye bloodshot and livid.
The heroes had worn it down somewhat and its dark hide now showed cracks and scorch marks and streaks of cement dust and dried trickles of ichor.
It hefted a chunk of street from the crater its fall had left and hurtled it bad-temperedly at Dave with deceptive speed, managing to clip his arm despite his prodigious dodging abilities. More bruises to add atop those he already had, plus the growing exhaustion from using his powers. He was nearing the end of his strength.
Dave: Abscond temporarily
Pick up your feet, lil' man.
Obeying the whisper in his mind, he stood. Instead of running towards the monster, however, he doubled back and headed to where he'd seen his brother fall. A spike of panic hit him when he saw he was gone, but spotted him further off.
Skidding to the ground on his knees, a hand went to Dirk's (non-injured) shoulder. "Dirk!" he said, relieved to see him awake. "Are you okay? What's hurt?"
Dirk: Continue to lie here and be miserable
"I'm alright." He promised, his voice hoarse. He tried to sit up, but immediately regretted it and slumped back onto the sidewalk. "Left shoulder is dislocated. Don't think anything is broken, so I just need you to pop it back in for me."
It wouldn't be the first time they'd done this, but usually it was Dirk helping Dave. He tapped Dave weakly with his good hand. He tried to sound nonchalant when he said, "C'mon, help me sit up so you can shove my shoulder back in."
Re: ROUND 5
Imagining the monster motionless seemed easy at this point. It was clear that this thing would take a lot more work before bringing it down. The least she could do was try to slow it down a little.Taking all of her focus, she hovered in the air and tried to trap the monster in its tracks. She didn't have anything powerful like elemental abilities or lazar eye beams, but she had at least done this before. This could set up any other attacks, and keep the destruction at bay for a little while.
Eridan: Grow up and show up
Aside from one short and entirely too cheerful text from someone he hadn't exactly been on speaking terms with recently, and to which he’d responded to with an equally blasé:
dont die
(It wasn't like the sentiment wasn't true after all, but he wasn't going to say much more. Something about “whining and glubbing” but hey, he doesn't hold grudges or anything.)
Course, the more time that passed after he’d sent the message and didn't get a response, the more he couldn't focus on his studies in the slightest. It wasn't as if Eridan was prone to looking on the bright side of anything, much less when his friend could potentially be fighting, and losing, against a “monster” or whatever the fuck other nonsense had popped up.
Very shortly, he’d ditched studying to hop on his bike and locate the scene of the fight, trail of destruction not hard to find, once he’d gotten to a place with windows that is. As he cycled past torn up street fixtures and over cracked asphalt, he did something he never had before, he started peddling, as fast as he could, just to add a little more speed and assist the motor. If this was what the streets looked like, he didn't want to imagine how badly Fef could be hurt right now.
Seeing the black mountain of a monster in the distance, Eridan switched to a parallel street planning to avoid the creature until he could get a lead on where it was headed and buy himself enough time to set up. By the time he’d reached an intersection two blocks ahead of the monster’s path, he was panting heavily from the exertion of his chosen method of transportation.
Leaning his bike against a nearby building, he rummaged through his side bag to uncover his battle gear. A black hoodie and a baseball cap, not really his style but it would do the trick, especially once his scarf was wrapped around his lower face again. But the most important addition to his bag was a collapsible rifle which he quickly assembled. It had been strange to carry it around for as long as he had, but he was tired of not being armed for every fight he’d ended up in.
The creature seemed to have stopped in its pounding tracks, within an acceptable range top, by the time Eridan was prepared to jump into action, lifting his rifle up to take aim. Many of the people he’d seen flitting around attacking it (thank god fef wasn't fighting alone) seemed to be recuperating on the ground out of the way so he hardly needed to worry about hitting someone accidentally. Instead he focused on locating weak points, and though it’s shell was cracking at many points, the best place, the most obvious place, was to fire a shot straight for its glaring eye. The bloodshot ring around white around black made for a rather convincing target after all and Eridan was, among other things, a very practised marksman.
