Something Massive This Way Comes | Crocker Univeristy
If you turn on the news at all this afternoon, you might notice that the entire city is in a state of straight up panic. The news reporters are frantically trying to find the proper words to say "A massive cyclops monster has emerged next to Crocker University and it is heading north."
Perhaps, if you're close enough, you'll hear the thing's massive footsteps as it cracks pavement and sends good town citizens screaming and running for cover.
Or perhaps you're listening into the police radio somehow, hearing their attempts to harm the thing go entirely to waste. Clearly, they aren't cut out to face giant monsters - that's up to somebody else.
It's time to shine, heroes!
((OOC Notes: First off, a reminder that if you participate in this battle, you will NOT be able to participate in the second battle, which will happen from the 27th-31st. Pick whichever one works best with your schedule.
Secondly, we are going to try a new battle format for this series of battles. Multiple attacks from multiple characters can be launched at once rather than needed to wait for a monster response between each attack. The way this will work is that you will make a direct reply to the most recent monster post, detailing your character's attack - do NOT reply anybody else's attacks. For now, this means you can also launch consecutive attacks, though there may be instances in which your character will have to sit out a round due to damages; we'll let you know if this happens.
Here's a concrete example of what a battle thread may look like.
At the end of this event, we'll try and get a sense about how you guys like this new battle method. We're hoping this will streamline battles a bit more and give everybody a shot at the action!))

ROUND 7
Still it soldiered stubbornly on, picking up speed as the park approached.
Eridan's shot struck true with a spray of ichor, making the monster stagger forward, crushing a car in its struggle to stay upright. It snarled as it regained its feet and tore a chunk of steel and glass out of the totaled vehicle and hurled it at Eridan. He was not so lucky this time and the projectile connected solidly with him, leaving him bloodied and bruised. He would not be able to take another hit like that.
The giclops had resumed its painful progress when Nepeta struck, her blades sinking deeply into the compromised hide. The monster bellowed like an animal and tried to knock her off, but its movements were clumsy and sight too cloudy to get a firm fix on her and it missed. Ichor dripped down her weapons onto her hands in a warm flow as the giclops gave up and resumed its efforts to fulfill its purpose, staggering northward with her still hanging on its leg.
Sollux: pewpewpew
Whatever. He ignored the strange small person and instead aimed his vision at the back of the giclops' other knee. Since no one was close enough to hear and it helped take his mind off of the unpleasant sensation of shoving laser beams out his eyes, he made a quiet whirring sound like a computer overheating as he prepared himself to fire.
When he did fire, he made laser noises to himself, a little louder than intended - but still probably not loud enough for anyone to hear him unless they had been listening.
Dave: Get back to business
He'd still prefer his brother stay out of the fight but he knew there wasn't much he could do now that he was at least partially healed. Not waiting for his brother since he knew Dirk could keep up thanks to his super speed, Dave took off once again after the monster. Pausing time in short bursts, he was able to cover ground more easily. Still rather exhausted from the fighting so far, he didn't know much more more use he could be but there were others to distract it and deal damage.
Finally caught up, he went for the injuries it had already sustained, cutting deeper into the already bleeding gashes. He was pretty sure if he tried another attack with fire he'd just pass out.
Dirk: Strife
He took his sword from Dave and hopped to his feet, immediately regretting the movement when it made him dizzy. Fuck. Pushing Feferi away when she'd tried to heal him probably hadn't been the best idea. He took a moment to steady himself, then ran off after Dave.
By the time he reached the monster, flashstepping was starting to make him nauseous. Fuck. Okay, he'd have to do this the old fashioned way. No more magic. He adjusted his grip on his katana, hoping his shoulder would hold out for the rest of this battle. Keeping pace with Dave, he went for the monster's weak spots with his sword as well. (And was that a child clinging to it's leg with Wolverine claws? What the hell?)
They needed to take this thing down before it caused any more damage.
Feferi: Grand Theft Bicycle
She could still hear the tearing and roaring of the ongoing battle in her good ear, but she focused on making it across the street.
With a grin, she pulled the Eridan's familiar Marengo upright and mounted the motorized bike. The (very) tiny voice that whispered that she was stealing Eridan's favorite thing she batted down with the (empty) assurance that since he had left his motorized bike unlocked, really she was just bringing Marengo closer and insuring the bike's safety.
Mostly though she just really needed a way to catch up with the fighting and knew how to turn Marengo on.
Fef took a deep breath to steady herself, grimly clinging to consciousness as Marengo buzzed to life beneath her and they zipped off down the street, nimbly avoiding the wrecked sections of pavement and rubble as she approached the battle.
She was definitely investing in a motorcycle or something two-wheeled, nimble, and faster than walking after this. If all of their future monsters kept up this run-by battle style she was going to need it.
Equius: Be the bull.
Thinking Nepeta was just sending him a reminder he took a break from his labor to look at his phone. Behind his glasses his eyes went wide with surprise and excitement, the surprise came from the fact would use the claws without his permission and the excitement from the fact that there was a monster to test those claws on. After processing the message from his friend Equius focused on the sound of the radio the client was trying to turn off and heard the approximate location of the beast, hell he could notice the shaking ground underneath his feet through the thick bottom of his work boots.
Equius excused himself saying he needed to go back to the workshop to get a specific tool and made deaf ears to the clients claims that he had everything the mechanic needed. He hoped into his car and drove off towards where the beast was supposed to be, no attempt was made to contact Nepeta in case she was in the heat of the battle and there was more than one foe. In the way there he retrieved the black bandana with a blue lion mouth that Nepeta had bought for him from his dashboard compartment and tied it around his head while stirring the wheel with his knees.
Stopping in front of his friends work-place Equius could see the beast in the dim distance, he hopped out and considered the bow that laid in the trunk of his car for a moment deciding it wasn't the best time to test the string. While running towards the beast he fetched his American knuckles from his back pocket and kissed the cold metal almost praying Nepeta and whoever else had hurt the foe in just a way could forgive his lateness. He took notice of the cyclopes poor state and though of giving it a swift end.
Running at full speed breathing with his mouth through the thick fabric of the bandana the man caught a glimpse of the other warriors recognizing almost everyone from the last time they were all at the park but there was no time for formalities now. Equius put all of his strength on his legs and jumped on a car in front of the cyclopes and used the rear suspension he rocketed upwards planting a foot on the beasts chest for one last impulse before delivering a hard right swing to its ugly maw.
If the beast does not catch him mid landing the heir would stand between the things legs and deliver a full left swing, his arm thrown so far back that his whole body tilted. Now he was as close to Nepeta as he could be and he smiled at her, even if both his arms were shaking in slight pain and a great deal of excitement remembering the last time they got a chance to hit something with killer intent "Salutations friend! A little early furr our date ,Eh?" he chuckles.
