Kanaya unlocked her phone and watched the tyrian text filling up her screen, a look of apprehension growing more apparent with every new line. Finally, she realized who it was, and smiled widely. Really, she should've expected this from the colorful girl from the rave. That thing she did with her H and E's shore -- ahem -- sure was strange, though.

669 Virginia Road
Its A Few Minutes From Central Park By Car

When she had finished responding to Feferi, she typed out another text:

Hey Amma And Appa
Im Having Someone Over She Will Probably Still Be Here When You Come Home

She placed her phone on her desk and set about cleaning up the scraps of fabric around her room. It would not be professional to have a client see her workspace like this, even if this was its true state. She opened her curtains to get as much sunlight streaming in as possible. The brightly colored pillows on her bed and plants by her windows made her room pop, while the larger areas of white and green softened their impact. Her supplies were organized neatly on a bookshelf. There was a desk set against one window, upon which resided her trusty sewing machine. It was old, but obviously well-cared-for.

Satisfied, she grabbed her phone and hopped downstairs. She settled on the couch to await Feferi's arrival.

Kanaya opened the door to one of the most predatory smiles she'd ever seen. Then she saw the tiara. She certainly rocks the whole shark princess look.

Kanaya herself was dressed casually in skinny jeans and a flowery top. She stepped aside into the living room, and led her upstairs past the dark wicker furniture and red rug. "Come in. Would you like anything to drink?"

"Thank you. Your outfit is very cute. Where did you manage to find that tiara?" She opened her bedroom door. "This is my bedroom-slash-workspace." She picked up her sketchbook and sat on a large floor pillows, pencil at the ready. "If you'd like to join me" -- she indicated the other pillows -- "we can look over and discuss any designs you have in mind."

Kanaya's eyes grew keen and she began to sketch the designs in her sketchbook, muttering things like, "Oh that part is interesting, but you'll be able to move so much better if we alter it here." and "This part should definitely be elastane." She put the finishing touches on with a pink pencil, and showed the first draft to Feferi. "What do you think? See anything that needs adjusting?"

Kanaya grinned at Feferi's enthusiasm, cheeks warming at the praise. "It's a stretchy material, kind of like spandex. It'll allow you to move much more easily than the other skirt did." She placed her sketchbook on the floor so she could riffle through her bookshelf. She returned with a bright green measuring tape. "If you don't mind I'd like to get your measurements now, and then we can sit down and discuss materials and cost. Or if you're in a hurry I can text you an estimate later."

"Oh!" Kanaya said as Feferi started to undress. "Here, let me help you with that." She moved around to undo the zipper. She laughed. "It seems every time we've met I've ended up behind you loosening your clothing." Yikes. "Readjusting it, I mean." She desperately hoped the flush wasn't showing on her cheeks. That was incredibly unprofessional, she thought. God, Kanaya.

Kanaya was glad her slip of the tongue went unnoticed. She smiled at the tiara still atop Feferi's head. "Let's move from top to bottom. Full height first. Here, please stand on this." She pushed the end of the measuring tape under Feferi's heel and stretched to her head. "Five two and an eighth," she muttered, and marked it down in her sketchbook. She continued this process until she had gotten every measurement from practically every angle she could manage.

She stepped away and studied her notes. "I think I've gotten everything I need. You can put your clothing back on.

"I've gathered that you prefer pink, but what about the accents? Are there any particular colors you'd like?"

"Oh, yes. I tend to go into work mode at times like this." Kanaya marked the color preferences down next to her notes on where the accents would best suit Feferi's shape and the kind of material each part should be. "The tight skirt is going to be anywhere from three hundred to five hundred dollars depending on how high-quality you want the material to be. If you want embroidery on the train that'll be extra... and the dress will probably be in the seven hundred dollar range. All in all this will take me at least a couple months. I have to stay on top of school and work as well."

Kanaya was surprised at how flippant Feferi was about the money, but she was excited to make the most of the high-end fabric.

"It depends on what you want out of it." She put a finger on her cheek. "Trains are traditionally made to display how elaborate they are. But I'll make alternate designs and email you, and you'll have until I'm done with the tight skirt to decide, so take your time on that. And I need enough to buy the fabric -- so about two hundred for the first skirt."

Jeez, Feferi said that often. Kanaya got the feeling hanging out with her for too long would quickly sap her social energy. She didn't mind this shortish amount of time, though.

Kanaya took the check and tucked it away safely in her own wallet. She'd have to head to the fabric store tomorrow.

"Would you like to stay for dinner? I'm sure my parents will insist on it."

"Oh, yeah, sure." Kanaya moved next to Feferi, hunching down awkwardly so she was properly in the frame. She gave the camera a small smile and the flash went off, dazing her. "Alright," Kanaya said, rubbing her eyes. "Thank you for deciding to commission me, Feferi. I'll make the pieces as spectacular as I can." Not that she wouldn't if she weren't being paid such a sizable amount; she just wanted Feferi to know. "I'll walk you out."

She stood at the door and waved as Feferi backed out of her driveway.
