Afternoon light streamed through the wide paneled windows that overlook sandy slopes descend down to the ocean, coated in flowing beach grass of bright green and flax. Writing utensils of many types lay interspersed between the sheets of newsprint and waxen tracing papers piled neatly atop the dark oak table. Their edges are rustled by a warm breeze sweeps up from the beach, just weak enough to be provide a charming atmosphere without sending the carefully planned order into chaos.

Despite all this calming setup, Eridan is tapping out text message after text to blow off his own impatience like it was somehow going to accomplish anything but the increased annoyance of his intended guest.

He had mentioned the occasion the week prior but, the closer it got to the arranged time, the more he wondered if she had neglected to inform him she would not be coming. And after all this prep work on his part too.

He glances at the antique grandfather clock at the end of the room situated between the dual entrance to the conservatory in which he sat, and watches the brass pendulum swing back and forth. It seemed to move far quicker than the time it pretended to tell.

Hello Everyone
Last Night Those Of Us Who Belong To The Golden Kingdom Were Summoned By The Queen To Hear Some Heavily Mysterious And Rather Alarming News
Previous To This Occurrence Feferi Terezi And I Discussed A Possible Meeting To Better Ourselves By Raising Our Skill Levels With The Hope That Doing So Will Increase The Chances Of A Favorable Outcome When Confronting These Otherworldly Creatures
Whatever Is Transpiring It Is Imperative That We Be Prepared And Personally I Would Be More Disposed To Practice In The Presence Of Prospective Partners
In Addition To Showing Signs Of Potential Powers My Dear Friend Karkat Is Currently Training In The Army And Has Agreed To Instruct Those Of Us Willing To Learn In Self Defense Techniques
I Request That You Do Not Bring Weapons As They Will Be Too Conspicuous In A Public Space But That You Do Bring Comfortable Clothing And If You Have Met Anyone Else That You Believe To Be Involved I Highly Encourage You Usher Them Along As More Perspectives Will Only Serve To Supplement Our Understanding Of The Situation
Karkat And I Would Like To Meet Tomorrow At 4 In Central Park Between The Fountain And The Elderly Flash Dancing Lesson

Bag packed with her sketchbook, raw meat, and grapes, Kanaya found herself ready for the journey to the park. The walk from her new place was a bit longer than before, so even though she lingered while choosing a workout outfit -- a simple white shirt and roomy ankle-length red skirt -- she overshot the timing and arrived nearly twenty minutes early.

She tucked herself beneath a tree near the upbeat dance class, pulling out her sketchbook. The wispy hair, flabby arms, and neon leotards would serve as good drawing subjects and an easy-to-follow beacon for her fellow superpowered peers to home in on.

Hello Jane Do You Happen To Remember Participating In A Dream Last Night In Which A Queen Whose Appearance Was More Akin To An Chess Piece Than A Human Pronounced |

No, that was stupid.

Would You Like To Attend A Meeting In Which Our Similarly Superpowered Peers Discuss |

Would You Be Amenable |

She set down her phone. Most of the people Kanaya intended to invite to the second (and hopefully larger) meeting of the Super Mighty Rumpus Guild had already demonstrated their powers or their belief in such powers. Either way, she felt she could easily approach them about meeting up.

Jane was a different matter. While she was fairly certain Jane possessed abilities and entirely certain that she'd made an appearance in her dream last night, she had no way of knowing how comfortable she might be confirming those claims. There was really no best way to approach that topic. Finally, she settled on:

Hello Jane I Was Hoping You Might Be Amenable To Discussing An Unusual Matter In Which I Suspect You To Be Involved

Karkat sat bolt upright from where he had face-planted on his desk, a piece of loose-leaf paper stuck to his forehead. Although he constantly danced on the edge of a seriously unhealthy lack of sleep, he was very good at not accidentally falling asleep when he didn't want to. In fact, he was a natural at not sleeping. Passing out randomly did not happen to him. But here he was, waking up from one of the weirdest dreams he had ever had. First of all, it featured a giant group of people, of whom he knew maybe two (notably, one of those two was someone he had only ever met in a very similar dream). Secondly, it contained the information that they were all apparently some sort of gods.

The main thing Karkat got from all of that was: there would be more monsters to fight, and no they did not have a choice. So it looked like Karkat was going to be joining this monster fighting team after all. In that case, they had to get started as soon as possible, because who knew when that weird queen person or whoever was in charge would send them more "trials"? Karkat intended to not get mercilessly shredded any time in the near future.

He turned to his computer and erased the "de:$%YTL""""""""""""""""""""" from where it had appeared on the word document he had open as his elbow had landed on the keyboard. Assuming Kanaya had actually had the exact same dream as Karkat (she had been there after all), she would most likely be awake too, right? Unless afterward the people who had already been sleeping just went back to the regularly scheduled dream broadcast. He switched to the pesterchum app and opened a new message to Kanaya.

-- carcinoGeneticist [CG] began pestering ‎grimAuxiliatrix [GA] --

CG: KANAYA IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY AWAKE, WAKE THE FUCK UP.
CG: I JUST HAD ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE FUCKING GOLDEN CITY DREAMS.
CG: EXCEPT YOU WERE THERE SO I AM ASSUMING THAT YOU HAD IT TOO.
CG: AND THAT QUEEN PERSON OR WHOEVER THE FUCK IT WAS TOLD US WE WERE GODS OR SOME SHIT.
CG: BUT ONE THING WAS AS CLEAR AS A FUCKING GLASS-LESS WINDOW.
CG: THERE WILL BE MORE MONSTER FIGHTS AND WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO SURVIVE THEM.
CG: OR AT LEAST THERE WILL BE SOME OTHER POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING "TRIALS".
CG: SO IF WE ARE GOING TO CREATE A FIGHTING FORCE OUT OF THESE PEOPLE NOW WOULD BE A FUCKING SUPERB TIME TO BEGIN.

Sometimes when you fall asleep at night, instead of dreaming normally, you wake up in a strange place, with blue skies and welcoming golden towers. Friendly figures with ivory-white shells scuttle along the streets and look at you curiously as you float by. They never hurt you, and you know they never would; you are safe here.

There are also other humans who dream here. Maybe you know them already; maybe they're just figures from your dreams. Maybe they're friends, maybe they're foes. Either way, you're free to talk to them at night. The adventures presented here are seemingly limitless, but directionless.

No matter what you've on in Prospit in the past, on April 13th at 4:13 AM, you are asleep. Perhaps you were already asleep, or perhaps you suddenly collapsed over some homework or a late night project. Either way, you awake in your other bedroom, and a royal carapacian guard is standing there, waiting for you.

You have a summons from the Queen.

Her parents were sad she had decided to move, but she had insisted her increased senior workload next year would require her to be as near to the school as possible. She neglected to mention her true motivation, however -- fear that her parents might discover her powers. They were already suspicious of her sudden change in appetite. She couldn't risk letting them find out.

Kanaya was dressed for hard work -- a simple red V-neck and high-waisted jeans. Her only jewelry was a gold nose ring. She paused loading boxes into her mother's SUV to wipe her brow, and perched on the trunk to check her phone for news of Jane and her friend.

Kanaya walked briskly into the library, just intending to drop off her borrowed books and pay the small late fee she had accrued. She could be absent-minded about those kinds of things even on her best days, but recently she'd had her hands full setting up her new apartment. Somehow the move-in date had landed on the exact day that none of her friends or family would be available to help.

She was so busy fretting that she didn't even realize who was at the front desk until she handed her her credit card.

Dirk had arrived at the cafe early and settled in at his regular table. He had a bunch of tools and supplies scattered over the table, as well as a cup of coffee, and another box of things on the floor next to him. He was seriously behind on his commissions, both for his robots and smuppets, and he was using this extra bit of time to catch up. (Why the hell someone wanted a custom smuppet made of vinyl was beyond him, but he didn't question his customers. Vinyl was a bitch to sew, though, and he was considering taking it off the list of available materials. He'd already pricked his fingers one too many times.)

He also had Jane's birthday gift to finish, and he didn't want that to be a rush job. Most of the physical body was done, at least, he just needed to fine tune some of the coding. (He wasn't going to let Jane end up with another abomination like Lil' Hal.)

He dropped the finished smuppet in the box on the floor, then leaned back in his chair and rubbed at his eyes under his shades. Maybe not sleeping was finally starting to catch up with him... He downed the rest of his coffee. No time for a break. He needed to finish at least one more order before Sollux arrived for his tutoring.

The air permeates with the sound of sizzling and the bustling of a single set of footsteps within a confined metal space. While one might immediately think this is some torture chamber designed to burn the inhabitant alive, it was far from that! The food truck known as the Fish and Tips was open for business, and the sole employee and owner was working up a storm inside of it. And he would have it no other way.

Jake English was toiling away, earning his day's pay his favorite way how. The lunch crowd this way wasn't as large as usual, and he had quickly gone through the hungry customers in record time. He wipes his forehead as he earns a breather, glad for the small break while he adjusts his hairnet and apron that reads 'Kiss Me, I'm Making Your Food.' Even with that, he'd somehow ended up with stains on his standard black work tshirt and jeans. No precautions in the world can really stop that when one works in a truck like this.

After a few moments of rest, he sticks his head out of the service window, glancing about and eagerly awaiting who might next be entranced by the allure of fried fish and potatoes. Cause honestly, who could resist that for long?

“Hey Kanaya, are you doing anything tomorrow night?” She had been trying to figure out the best way to ask if her coworker would like to hang out and watch movies for the last two hours they had been working. Thankfully bussiness was slowing down as day turned to evening so she had had plenty of time to think of the best way to word her question.

Everything she had thought of in her mind seemed more like a proposition for a date, which was not her intention. Even though Kanaya was a lovely woman, Nepeta had no amorous feelings toward her coworker. She did, however, think that they were good enough friends by this point to extend an invite over to her house for movies and snacks. Maybe even some wine if that was something that interested her, just to keep it classy.

“I was just wondering if you wanted to come ofur and hang out. There’s a movie on Netflix that I’ve been trying to get around to watching that seems interesting, and we could make a movie night of it if you’re not busy!”

Nepeta really hoped she wasn’t going to get shot down here. She could not blow this, especially since she didn’t really have any friends who she was close enough to invite over in the first place.

Banners went up all over town advertising the arrival of the carnival. 'ONE WEEK ONLY!' the signs proclaimed as the carnies set up the fairway and the rides. A ferris wheel rose above the trees of central park and other attractions towered over the lowly humans as opening day approached.

At last the morning had arrived and the ticket booths opened for business, selling bundles to ride the rides and play the games. The rides included favorites like the ferris wheel, the zipper, a carousel, the tunnel of love, the reverse bungee, the mechanical bull, and many others. The fairway flashed lights and beeped and played music as the fair workers tried to lure in customers to the shooting range and the Ring the Bell. The food area and strolling vendors carried cotton candy, popcorn, corn dogs, and just about anything you could deep fry.

"Come one, come all!" cried a garishly dressed greeter, brandishing a camera and offering to take photos of arrivals (for purchase later in one of the stalls of course). Even at noon the booths were lit up with flashing lights, offering oversized stuffed animals for those who managed to win games of skill or chance. The facepainting booth did fast work, based on how many of the fairgoers had flowers or spirals curling on their cheeks, with the occasional person with a cat face or butterfly mask.

Everywhere you went it smelled of fried foods and sugar, the very air seemed to sparkle as the carnival beckoned you in, offering a multitude of places to go and things to do.

Jane sat at the library's reference desk, her shoulders rolled back and her gaze angled upwards. Her eyes roved across the aging ceiling tiles, counting them for no other reason than attempting to alleviate her boredom. It was rare that she got past 48 before she lost both interest and count, and she sighed, begrudgingly deciding that she may as well start from tile one.

The library was deserted, with most students either in class or at lunch, and Jane had done just about everything she possibly could within the realm of productivity. She'd shelved all of the returned items, sent out emails to those who were tardy with books and fines alike, tidied up the library, and even put in orders for new volumes for their collection. Abandoning the fruitless counting, she looked out to the library at large, biting her painted lower lip. Once more, she sighed, figuring that if nothing else, she could always work on an assignment or two.

Jane withdrew a USB drive from her pocket and inserted it into the computer, pulling up a paper she had been working on. It wasn't due for another week and a half, but she figured it was better to work on it now than to be stressed about it later. She ran a hand through her already-tussled dark hair, and cracked her knuckles, ignoring the way her stomach grumbled in frustration. "Oh, hush." the chubby brunette chided, adjusting her red-framed glasses upon the bridge of her nose. Soon enough, her colleagues would return from lunch, and she would be relieved from her post. Patience, here, was key.

As she began to type, her lips formed the words she wrote, the paragraphs becoming a soft whisper beneath her breath.

As spring finally begins to take hold of Sburb City, melting away the lingering traces of snow, there seems to be a shift. A change in the energies, if you will. You can feel that something is different, even if you can't put your finger on what.

Better keep your eyes on the news. Something could happen.

((OOC: Each "battle" will take place under its own top level post. There will be IRL time limits for participation, and you cannot participate in consecutive battles, so we're encouraging small groups or pairs rather than huge ensemble battles this time. Check in with chat when you're about to launch an attack to make sure we keep things straight!))

Princess Bride

Flyers had been up around the city for weeks announcing that the seasonal movie night was coming now that things were warming up. When spring came, the city hosted monthly community movie night's in the large park, bringing in a massive projection screen and scattering speakers throughout a wide open area where people could set up their own chairs or blankets and watch a movie in peace. Food trucks parked nearby, lit by floodlights and lines began to form as the sun set and people staked out their places.

A crisp breeze tousled hair and made the large projection screen sway slightly, rustling leaves and making people who hadn't worn enough layers shiver. Spring had sprung, but a breath of winter still lingered in the air.

Despite the slight chill, the atmosphere was festive, the movie a classic. Some months they went with horror or romance, with age restrictions placed at times but to kick off the season the city was hosting the Princess Bride, complete with romance, pirates, danger, ROUSes, everything you could want.

Security was slightly heightened, with a larger police presence than usual in the wake of the rumors flying around about wild animal attacks, but for the most part people were calm, relaxed, and ready for a free evening of municipal fun as the dark deepened.

The speakers crackled into life. "THE SHOW WILL BEGIN IN FIVE MINUTES," they announced from all directions, all of the nearby lamps flicking off and then back on to alert the oblivious to the fact that they should wrap up their food-buying and get back to their staked out places before the lights went off in earnest and the movie began.

It felt good to leave her jacket on the back of the chair when she left the apartment that morning, and it felt even better to be able to wear shorts again. (SHORTS!!) Not to mention the fact that not only did she not have classes to attend today, but she also had off from both the coffee shop, and the shelter as well. In other words, it was a perfect day.

She pulled out her phone and wrote a quick mass message to some of her friends and some acquaintances whose numbers she’d gotten one way or another.

:33 < it’s much too mice a day to be spent inside!
:33 < m33t me at central park and we can spend it togethfur and really make use of it
:33 < i’ll be at the site of the meteor crash, where that tacky art installation used to be if you want to m33t up
:33 < bring ideas and things to do if you’ve got them, othefurwise we’ll just be sitting around in the grass and hanging out

She hit send and slipped her phone into her pocket once more as she set off down the street. Hopefully she could jog a lap or two around the park before anyone else showed up, and if not maybe she would have company to do it with instead, depending on who showed up.

Just as the fight had ended with the wolves escaping; the police had shown up and taken the statements of those who were outside and saw what had happened. While the police were doing their work; Terezi had an idea of her own. This wasn't a normal situation and she didn't feel like leaving it up to the police this time. There was something deeper going on and something strange and she was going to stick her nose right into it. But first, she needed to gather everyone who fought or were around to see what the heck was going on.

Thanks to the help of a nice officer, she was able to get her heels back. She didn't wear them, they would only hurt more after she had been running around on the hard pavement. From strangers she had just met at the speed dating to her two friends; she told everyone to go back into the cafe after the police left. There was a secret group meeting about to unfold, she stated in a playfully serious tone.

Terezi entered the cafe and stood behind the register counter to overlook the tables in front of her. Her nose was picking up on the strong scent of vanilla, marshmallows, cherries and other various red fruit. It was so much to take it; she shook her head but that did nothing but a minor headache. "Damn it." She uttered.

She sniffed the air, each person had a particular scent to them. It was hard to tell who was who but once there were no more new smells she decided court was now in session. Raising her cane in the air she banged it three times on the counter. She would hear from Nepeta later on her reckless tactic for attention. "Everyone listen up! First meeting of the Super Mighty Rumpus Guild will now commence. I am now your official leader, prosecutor and judge. If you forgot my name or we haven't met I'm Terezi. I'm perfectly qualified for this position because let's be real: most of you weenies were probably going to run after the cops left. Too bad!" She cackled, "We're going to discuss what the Hell happened out there. Why were wolves in broad city daylight? It makes no sense, sure we're destroying their ecosystem but surely they wouldn't be prepared for a mutiny against humanity like this?!"

Today is Valentine’s Day.

Like it or not, you’re single. And like it or not, you’ve ended up at the Corner Cafe for their annual speed dating event! Exciting or demeaning? Take your pick.

The cafe is totally decked out for the occasion. Everything that could possibly bear a heart shape has a heart shape. There are hearts in the windows. There are hearts on the walls. The candle holders have hearts cut out in them. The table covers are red with white hearts on them. There’s even some heart-shaped confetti that has been strewn about artfully on the tabletops. (Some of it’s already on the floor, even if it isn’t supposed to be.)

In addition to the overabundance of hearts, there are streamers dangling from the ceiling decked out in pink, red, and white. There is a single red rose in an artful vase set in the center of each table, to set the mood. And if you look closely, there are also a couple of cat decorations with dialogue bubbles spouting generic lines like “Be my Meow-intine?” and “You are Purr-fect to me.” Who could have possibly put those up?

When you walk in and put your name and contact information down, you’ll be assigned a random number. Then, once the event begins, numbers will be assigned in random pairs, and you’ll be seated at a table with your random date. From there you have five minutes to talk and get as much information out of them as possible before the buzzer goes off, and you’re assigned somebody new. This event is gender non-specific, so you could be matched with anyone and everyone!

Once all of the dates are over, you will be free to turn in the numbers of the people you liked, and if you both listed one another, you will receive each other’s contact information! It’s time to go forth and score some hot dates, kids.

((OOC Note: This event is semi-required by the powers that be - if it is at all possible, please make sure your character shows up here. They don’t have to participate in the speed dating, but we’d love it if they could at least be in the area! There will be separate headings for speed dating posts and non-speed dating posts, to keep interactions clear.

Also, to keep in the spirit of speed dating, we’re imposing a ten post limit (so five each) on all speed dating threads - once you’ve hit the tenth comment, the buzzer rings, and your character must move on.))

Kanaya walks in the shop around 8:00 Saturday morning. She has changed and is setting up the chairs when Nepeta comes in. "Hello," she calls.

Kanaya waits until she and Nepeta are both at the counter to broach the matter at hand. She fiddles with the coffee machine, unsure of how to start. Finally, she settles on: "I've been made aware of why the girl in here yesterday was behaving so strangely."
